The Great Escape

I just found Pistachio out of the cage, to be exact, she was on top of the cage. >.<
When roastbirdie pointed it out to me, I didn't believe it.
She's really way too smart for me. Ahhh
Anyway, baby Pecan is 106g today at 2am. :)

Grand aunt Candice visits Pecan and celebrates his 1 month

Baby Pecan shot past the 100g mark today! In fact, he was 104g at 11pm, 21 May 2008, at exactly 1 month old. woah what a big baby!

Grand aunt Candice is actually very young and cute, too bad she's been promoted to the rank of grand aunt, sounds so old. hee anyway this grand aunt is nice took some pictures of Pecan! There, finally we can have some pictures rather than me repeating day after day his weight here.

Photobucket

As you can see, Pecan's ears have almost fully "popped". He's a real chinnie now!

Compare these with the photo of Baby in a mug at 3 days old, doesn't he look much bigger in size?

If you can't tell, compare the difference between the baby and the mug in the above pictures.

Baby Pecan with Granny!
The little one kept moving it's so hard to take a good shot of him! So have to squash him. What a hyper baby!
Why why he has that pitiful look on his face... Just cooperate and take a good shot alrighty?

And finally, Granny with pretty grand aunt! Isn't she just as cute as Pecan? :P

Baby Pecan is 96g

Baby Pecan is 96g today at 5pm..
And tomorrw he'd be exactly 1 month old!
Happy 1 month birthday Baby! :D
Too bad no one here to celebrate. I'll buy him a piece of cake, but I eat. lol

Chewy Pistachewy

First of all, Baby Pecan is 92 g today! Woah
And I forgot to mention, Pistachio is really naughty! She chewed on cables the other day grab from outside the cage and caused a total blackout! I got electrocuted too cos I didn't know the wire is broken. Luckily the current or is it voltage is quite low so we are both fine. She has no burns also.
Also, she chewed many big ones on our bed sheet cover, the one I used to cover the top of her cage.
:(

Baby Pecan has his ears "popped"

Pecan is 85g today, only 1g more than yesterday. :( Not very good but he looks bigger, much bigger. And his ears are starting raise a little, perhaps that signals his leaving of "babyhood" and stepping into "teenagehood". :)

Baby Pecan weighs in again

The latest number is 84g, at 1pm today.
That's like, 4g put on since yesterday. I am really amazed at how fast chinnie babies grow. It's so much fun to watch him grow up. Too bad for you Grandpa you miss the whole thing hehe.

I really hope baby grow fast and big so that I can remove the separator and let them have bigger cage space. Mommy Peanut looks bad in the small confined space but if I remove the separator baby may escape from the top and maybe jump and injure himself. He looks like he knows how to land properly, most of the time anyway, but I am unwilling to take chance.

And he fits so nicely in my pocket. I can bring him out for a walk. Pocket pet! heh.

Moomoo and Oinkoink visit Pecan

And Pecan is 80g on 12 May 2008 4pm, plus minus 1g, cos he kept moving it's kinda hard to get an accurate result. And the weighing scale is kinda lousy, it always says low battery even when I put in new battery. Grrr I wanna do something about it but Grandpa is keeping all the receipts and warranty and stuff.
Grandpa quick come back! Your grandson won't even recognise you anymore! :)

Here's Booper standing on a volleyball! Isn't he cute? Booper isn't the newest addition to my chin family. He's one of Patrick's chins waiting to go to a good home.
He's got lotsa character too and he likes to jump to your shoulder from the cage. But he's got a bit too much character he's quite the antisocial. He is territorial despite his gender therefore he has to stay alone in the cage. Nevertheless, he's cute and cuddly (to humans anyway).

Moomoo girl says I have to make red eggs for baby's one month. How do I make them? What kinda dye do you use anyway? It has to be edible food dye I can't possibly use paint or water colour?
The alternative is to make red peanuts! Those with the shell then we can dye the shell red. That's more appropriate for chinchillas' size plus peanuts are really special, to mommy Peanut anyway.

I bought more apple sticks for my chinnies to chew. But mommy Peanut isn't so interested in it as the others. Pepper and Plum are the "chewiest" especially Pepper together with Plum they have finished chewing the smallest willow basket. Left only the base.
I've just added a bigger size basket to their cage and Pepper loves sitting in it. It's so cute cos it fits his butt just nicely. :)

And friends do come for Baby Pecan's 1 month celebration. It's actually 21st May though I wonder if I should postpone it for 3 days so that Grandpa YB can come back and join us. :) It'd be much more fun, and we'd have a decent camera to capture the great moments!

Baby Pecan's upcoming fatherless and grandfatherless 1 month birthday

Baby Pecan is 78g at 11pm on 9 May 2008. And he looks biggie!
AND he learnt to climb up the horizontal bars in the cage. Good thing I blocked off the top levels.
Mommy is still hunting for Pistachio to bully but she seems a little milder.

I just thought of this: that Baby Pecan will celebrate his 1 month birthday on 21 May without a father and a grandfather!
Still thinking of what present to buy him. I better get a slice of cake with a candle and get hold of a decent camera then.
And it's Mothers' Day in 2 days, we shall get Mommy Peanut something too. :)

Baby Pecan Day 17

73g at 1pm.
Mommy Peanut still loathes Pistachio.
*grrrr*

Pecan big boy is 70g

70g
5 May 2008 11pm
I sealed up the bottom half of Pistachio's cage. Quite a big project. Now Peanut can only scratch and grit teeth from outside of the cage even face to face but they can't hurt each other.
Perhaps it's worse this way though. They look so agitated but can't get the other when one roams outside and the other is locked inside the cage.
That's a bad choice over a worse choice: the alternative is not to give them any out of the cage time at all.
But Pecan and Pistachio seem to ignore each other. Hopefully they can get along.

1 more g

68g is the latest number. :)
And baby is such a fast runner and jumper now. He's getting too fast to control. He has yet to learn to roll in dust bath though.
Someone lend me a camera please! I so badly want to take photos and videos of baby before he grows up.
I so badly want to post photo of baby up for Grandpapa to see. When he comes back from Europe Baby would have become a teenager already.
Little things grow so fast.

Pecan is 67g on Day 12

That's a whole 20g more than the first time we weighed him on Day 3.
And he gave me a shock today he looks so much bigger. No longer my tiny lil baby.
And he likes to jump on and ride on mommy's head.
Lil bugger looks like he's gonna be a horny boy when he grows up!

Plum learnt to use the wheel!

Who says you can't teach an old chin new tricks? :)
We've always thought Plum doesn't know how to use the wheel and she's probably too old to learn. Well today my mom told me she saw Plum playing on the wheel last night, albeit at a very slow speed. Today we saw her "fighting" for wheel time with Pepper and she's apparently improved a bit on her speed, according to mom.
It takes her half a year to learn to use the wheel, long time but still, she can learn new tricks at 9 years old!
Too bad though she used to pee so much on the wheel it's getting very rusty. Hopefully we can get new chin spin and flying saucer (expensive wheels!) from USA soon. :)

And Baby Pecan was last weighed as 63g yesterday. I haven't seen him today. Will weigh him again tomorrow.

Baby Pecan Day 6

Baby is doing a great job! He weighs a whopping 56g this morning! That's 5g increase from yesterday. And he does indeed looks bigger to me now. Or is he just fluffier? He's so much more agile now but to me I prefer to see him hop around clumsily that's the baby cuteness. :)

Photobucket

Don't have pictures of him today shall use some older photos :D Taken on Day 3 by a friend on her handphone, so the quality is not that great.

Photobucket

Oh ya I wanted to get a 2nd hand cage to prepare for baby Pecan when he grows up. He needs to be separated from mommy to prevent inbreeding at around 2 months old. But when I went to see the cage it was very badly rusted. :( So sad.

Baby Pecan Day 4

Lil Pecan weighs 48g this morning at 7am. That's 1 extra gram he has put on. :) Keep it up baby and mommy!

Photobucket

Update: Pecan weighs 51g at 11pm! woohoo put on 3g! Clap clap!

Baby Pecan is 2 days old!

Ok I decided to turn this into my chinchilla blog since Peanut gave birth to baby Pecan. I am so excited about this chin granny experience. :)

But right now I am pretty tired cos I have just spent the last 2 days dashing here and there to buy the things needed for baby and post birth giving mother care. *collapse*

Photos will have to wait, videos too. Though they are on my photobucket album - http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c60/tinywingz

I just want to jot down Baby's weight and Pistachio's weight before I forgot. Didn't get to weigh Peanut cos she refused to cooperate.

Anyway Baby was born on 21 April 2008 between 4-5pm, which I missed. damn!

23 April 2008
Pecan, at 3 days old, weighs 47g morning and night. No putting on weight today, gotta work a bit harder mommy.

Pistachio, at approx. 7 months old, weighs 411g (evening). Her previous owner had her for around 380g the last time he weighed her 1 or 2 months ago, so she's having good progress here with me. :)
